Research

Douglas' research interests are focused on the recorder in the nineteenth century, the flageolet, the bass recorder and the role of ocatve recorders in the eighteenth century. He combines study based on organology, historcial musicology, and social history in relation to the instruments, their pedagogy, and their repetoire.

He is currently working on a monograph on the English small flute concerti and a book on the history of the flageolet in England 1600-1800.
