B i o g r a p h y

Originally a scholar of Wycliffe College, Douglas graduated in medicine from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School. 


He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was associate ENT surgeon at  the Royal Surrey County Hospital until his retirement in 2014.


He lives in Guildford, Surrey and  is married to Emma, a keyboard player and a graduate of the Royal College of Music.

Douglas is a deacon in the Church of England and 
a glider pilot.


He is a member of the Galpin Society, the  Royal Musical Association, the Dolmetsch Foundation, American Musical Instrument Society and the Association des collectionneurs d'instruments de musique à vent. 

Duct flute collection

He has a small collection of duct flutes, including a Delecta Harmonia, a rare  twin-bore double flageolet by Bainbridge, French flageolets, English double and single flageolets dating from the nineteenth century and German Schulflöten of the inter-war era.
